Hurricane Season Is Here Again

Well folks, it's that time of the year again - hurricane season. Doesn't it seem to get here earlier each year? At least it does to me. Anyway, as residents of South Florida, we all know the drill which is to have at least six items in stock for at least 3 days: water, food, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding, tools and emergency supplies, and special items.

2012 marks 20 years since Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida, and thank God for all the strides we've made in updating building codes and educating the general public. But on the flip side, it's been 20 years which means new residents who weren't here during Andrew. Remember, Andrew was the FIRST hurricane of the 1992 season in August! And it only takes one storm to cause devastation.

So just a friendly reminder to not be complacent this year. We've had six years of essentially no major storms affect our area. Be mindful of getting your trees trimmed, remove objects from your patio and backyard that are potentially airborne missiles, and this includes containers that can hold water and also create a mosquito nuisance. Be safe!
